Day 1

Overview

Luang Prabang > Ban Na Kham - Ban Houay Tan > Ban Som - Ban Na > Ban Chan Neu > Luang Prabang

We depart from our office in Luang Prabang and head off downhill via bicycle to the dock. We board a boat in order to cross the mighty Mekong River to Ban Xieng Man village. Upon arrival, we continue onwards via bicycle to Ban Na Kham. This village is famous locally for its sugarcane growing and also ‘Kaolam’ which is sticky rice and coconut milk cooked in bamboo! We spend some time to look around and perhaps also sample this delicious snack before continuing onwards once again to Ban Houay Tan, an ethnic Khmu village, then to Ban Som and finally Ban Na where we stop for lunch which is prepared for us by a local cook.

After enjoying our lunch and taking some time to relax, we head off to explore the village and its surroundings. You will see people going about their daily lives and working in the rice fields etc. After spending some time looking around, we carry onwards once more to Ban Chan Neua, a small village that is very well known for its pottery and jar making! After witnessing the age old tradition of jar making, we voyage across the Mekong River once again via a small fishing boat which brings us back to civilisation in Luang Prabang. The final leg of the journey (Depending on how energetic you are feeling) is a short bike ride or push up the hill which brings us back to where we started at the Green Discovery office and concludes the day.

Approximately: 5 hours cycling, 2 hours walking, 20 minutes boat trip
