Day 1

Overview

Two Days Trekking, Kayaking to Pak Ou Cave and Elephant Riding

Pickup from your accommodation at around 8:30am and we go northwards to Ban Huay lo – a Khmu village about 50 km away from Luang Prabang. From there, we start our trail. We will walk up a slight slope under the shadow of green forest, cross small streams and pass bamboo bushes. By noon, we reach a small Hmong village called Ban Tham loum where we have a lunch break.

After lunch, we continue trekking up a hill for another 2 hours to Hmong village of Ban Mok Chong on the top of the mountain. On the way, we will see beautiful scenery of karstic mountains while walking through farming areas on mountainous terrain and meet hill tribe people working at their farm. You can chat with them and even join some activities being practised on the farm.

We will have dinner and stay overnight in a Hmong family home at Ban Mok Chong. You will have a chance to learn about Hmong culture while spending the night with a local family.

Day 2

Overview

Two Days Trekking, Kayaking to Pak Ou Cave and Elephant Riding

After having a breakfast, we walk down the hill to the main road for about 2 hours. Then our vehicle will take you southward about 15 minutes to Ban Hatkhor. From there, we start to kayak on the Nam Ou River. We will start the first course of kayaking on  the smooth stream to Pak Ou Cave, the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers, Pak Ou.

Upon arrival at Pak Ou, we visit the famous Pak Ou Caves – two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devoted pilgrims. We will enjoy lunch at the cave before we start the second course of the kayaking on the Mekong River.

We paddle down the Mekong for 20 minutes to Manifa Elephant Camp. We will ride the elephants for an hour to reach Ban Xanghay, one of the few villages producing a strong alcoholic beverage called Lao Whisky or Lao Lao. You can also have a taste of the whisky produced.
