Tad Lo and Tad Hang are two of the most beautiful and accessible waterfalls in Salavan Province, located along the scenic Xe Set River in the heart of the Bolaven Plateau region. Surrounded by lush forests, traditional villages, and rolling hills, these waterfalls have become one of southern Laos' most popular eco-tourism destinations, attracting nature lovers, photographers, backpackers, and adventure travelers alike.

Although often referred to collectively as "Tad Lo," the area actually consists of a series of waterfalls along the Xe Set River, including Tad Hang, Tad Lo, and the larger Tad Soung further upstream. Tad Hang is the first waterfall most visitors encounter upon arriving in Ban Saenvang village, while Tad Lo lies approximately 500 meters upstream and offers a more dramatic cascade.

Tad Hang Waterfall

Tad Hang is a picturesque waterfall flowing over a series of rocky ledges and rapids. Its relatively gentle flow and accessible pools make it one of the best places in the area for swimming and relaxing. A bridge spanning the Xe Set River provides excellent views of the falls and surrounding landscape. Visitors often enjoy picnics, photography, and peaceful walks along the riverbanks while listening to the soothing sound of cascading water.

Tad Lo Waterfall

Further upstream lies the more powerful Tad Lo Waterfall. Here, the Xe Set River plunges approximately 10 meters over a wide, tiered rock wall stretching nearly 30 meters across. The waterfall crashes into a series of rapids before calming into pools below, creating a spectacular natural scene. The surrounding forest, riverbanks, and rocky formations make Tad Lo one of the most photogenic waterfalls in Laos. Visitors can enjoy scenic viewpoints, riverside cafés, and nearby guesthouses that offer direct views of the waterfall.

The waterfalls are located within Ban Saenvang, a charming village known for its relaxed atmosphere and cultural diversity. Many travelers choose to stay overnight to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and use the area as a base for exploring nearby ethnic villages, trekking routes, coffee plantations, and other attractions of the Bolaven Plateau. The area is also home to Alak, Katu, and other ethnic communities, providing opportunities for cultural experiences and village visits.

During the rainy season, the waterfalls become especially impressive as increased water flow creates powerful cascades and dramatic scenery. During the dry season, the calmer waters make swimming and riverside relaxation particularly enjoyable. Whether you're seeking adventure, nature, photography, or simply a tranquil retreat, Tad Lo and Tad Hang offer one of the most memorable experiences in southern Laos.
