Day 1

Overview

Mountain biking, Trek, Elephant Experience, Boat, Waterfall, and Homestay (L/D)

Size up at our Tiger Trail bike shop on one of our quality mountain bikes and head out of town with your guide. Our first stop is at the “Golden Stupa” temple, Wat Phon Phao, with a birds-eye view of the city and gorgeous grounds – one of the few temples in the area with nuns. A short distance further we visit Ban Phanom, historically the King’s preferred silk hand-weaving village. You’ll even get a chance to see the resting site of Henri Mouhot, the French explorer who popularized Angkor Wat.

The last stretch of our ride takes us into the Nam Khan River valley with stunning mountains, waterfalls, elephants, and a river flowing through it.  Take a break at our Tiger Trail Adventure Camp on the banks of the river then take a boat up to the Tad Sae waterfall. Here you can enjoy the clear spring water which invites you for a refreshing bath. Experience an unforgettable interactive experience with Asian elephants (no riding).

Reenergize with lunch at the falls before a 1.5-hour trek into the “Fair Trek” Project area where communities directly profit from your visit. Your homestay in the foothills of a large mountain gives you an unforgettable firsthand chance to know the culture and traditions of the Khamu people in a picturesque landscape.

Day 2

Overview

Trekking out of the jungle and Kayaking the Nam Khan River (B, L)

After breakfast and farewells to your new Khamu friends, set off hiking out of the mountains about 1.5-hours to the riverbank and Xieng Lom Village. After safety and equipment checks, start kayaking down the Nam Khan River passing jungle, elephant camps, villages and rice paddies lining the river banks.

We'll kayak downriver from Houy Yen to Gang Noon approximately 3-4 hrs with several sections of rapids fun for everyone. Transfer by vehicle to Luang Prabang to conclude this two-day outdoor adventure.

  •  Low water season, November to July:

Day 01

During the low water season we’ll enjoy a slightly extended mountain bike route taking us off-road up and down some hills and through villages, with a boat crossing.  Ride to the Elephant Village for elephant experience and then hike to the homestay village.

Day 02

We'll trek from the homestay village through Tad Sae Waterfall area in route.  Keep in mind that during the dry season, water levels at the falls can be quite low. There are elephants on-site that you may view and interact with up-close if you like.

As water flow on the river is slower, we enjoy a shorter kayaking distance of 11 Km to lasting about 2.5 hours depending on conditions, and we can visit Henri Mohout’s grave en route.
