Vat Inpeng is a historical landmark of arts and culture, located to the north of the Vat Ongteu. There are many historical elements of interest to those studying Lao art and culture, including the rock sculptures, Buddha image and rock columns, which depict Mon and Khmer cultures. Although many of the original items in this temple have been removed, the pagoda still corresponds to the Gods (Pha Nya In). It is said that, once during construction, Pha Nya In transformed himself into an old wise man to assist with the construction, and into an old white monk to help create the Buddha image. Because of the legend, the temple is known as Vat Inpeng.
