Overview
TOUR OPTION - 01: Kayaking/Rafting on NamHa River
-
We meet at the Discovering Laos office for 8:00 am, and take tuk-tuk ride to ThaSae village, situated on the Nam Ha River which runs through the Nam Ha NPA.
-
After some basic instructions on kayaking techniques and safety we begin paddling downriver through the heart of the national protected area where, almost immediately, we find ourselves surrounded by lush tropical forest fishing high from the riverbank on either side.
-
On the river we encounter a series of yet more exciting rapids, all set against the backdrop of stunning natural beauty. Further downriver we stop off to visit a couple of minority villages; heading first to the Khmu village of Ban Nalan, followed by the Lantan village, Ban Namkoy. At each village we have the opportunity to meet the local people and learn something about their way of life. As we continue downriver the current alternates between periods of calm and fast flowing waters, with the chance to spot beautiful tropical birds between tackling wild rapids. Towards the end of the day, we join the mighty Namtha River. After crossing a final few rapids, we reach Houay Leuat village around 4:00 pm. We then hop aboard the waiting tuk-tuk for a swift and breezy ride back to the Discovering Laos office.
TOUR OPTION - 02: Kayaking/Rafting on NamTha River
-
We meet at the Discovering Laos office at 9:00 am, from there a short Tuk-Tuk ride takes us to the start of the kayaking adventure. After a brief tutorial on saying techniques and safety, we start paddling on the mighty Namtha River, the largest and most important river of the Luang Namtha province. Following 2 hours of paddling through jaw-dropping scenery and thrilling rapids we stop off at Sop Tud village of the Lantan people, taking time to meet the locals and learning about their culture.
-
Having conquered a cascade of exciting rapids we find a perfect riverbank location for a delicious Lao picnic lunch.
-
Back on the river dramatic scenery unfolds as the current carries us through a stretch of calmer waters. Further downriver we pass quaint Khmu villages, where we can stop for a rest and the chance of an introduction to the local people and their unique culture. The final stage on our river adventure includes yet more exciting rapids and stunning scenery until, at last, we reach the Khmu village of Houy Leuat.
