Overview

Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw along the Ou River with Lao Leu village visit (L, D)

Meet your Tiger Trail guide in Luang Prabang and enjoy a scenic drive along the Nam Ou River to the famous quaint town of Nong Khiaw nestled in the mountains of Northern Laos.  Along the way, we’ll stop for a visit at Ban Na Nyang, a Lao Leu village known for its Lao Leu traditional-style houses and handicrafts.

Arrive in Nong Khiaw in the afternoon and have time to explore. Your guide will show you around and take you to sample some local food for dinner.

You’ll overnight in a guesthouse and be able to explore Nong Khiaw.

Day 2

Muang Ngoi is a must-see in the area and you'll have plenty of time to explore the small riverside town. Your guide will take you on a hike through a valley to a local cave and visit villages.

Muang Ngoi is known for its remoteness and is nestled amongst mountains on every horizon. You’ll want to take it easy, taking in the serene landscape before tomorrow’s full active day.

Overnight in Lattanavongsa guesthouse.

Day 3

Overview

Morning River Cruise, Kayaking, 100 Waterfall Trek, and Riverside Homestay (B, L, D)

Grab your gear and get ready for an early start as we set out on a full day of active adventure. Begin with a private return boat ride from Muang Ngoi to Nong Khiaw where our kayaks will be waiting.

Kayak the Ou River on calm waters through an unforgettable landscape 14 Km to a riverside Khmu village where we’ll be spending the night.

Drop your bags there and set out on the famous 100 Waterfall tour discovered by Tiger Trail. You’ll want to bring shoes that can get wet as we’ll be hiking up and through the waterfall itself as we ascend the many waterfalls that give this waterfall its name.

Return from the day of adventure and activities to the riverside village for a cultural immersion homestay. Dinner will be prepared by and enjoyed with your guide as you take time to experience local life in mountain villages.

Overnight in a riverside Khmu village homestay.

Day 4

Overview

Kayaking, Explore Pak Ou Cave and the Whiskey Village, Luang Prabang Return (B, L)

Rise in the morning hours for our final day of kayaking 23 km down a beautiful stretch of the Nam Ou River. Along the way, we will stop to explore a Khmu village of about 50 families on the river banks. The water along this stretch is calm and the scenery is jungle-covered mountains. For this stretch, a backup boat will join us so that you can paddle the full or any portion of the 23 km that you like.

Our truck will meet and take us to visit the famous Pak Ou Cave where the Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers converge. We’ll have lunch in a restaurant with a spectacular view of the rivers and cave and then have plenty of time to explore.

On from the Pak Ou Cave, we’ll stop to visit Ban Xiang Hai, popularly known as the “Whiskey Village” for the Lao Lao rice whiskey its families traditionally make, in addition to many various local crafts which you may browse.

Board our truck again for the final drive along the Mekong River as we return late afternoon to Luang Prabang.
