Overview
Departure at 8:00AM to Local Home Cooking Experience, beginning with transfer to the Phosy market for meeting a host from local family. She will lead you through the market, meeting market sellers of vegetables, bamboo etc... You will help buy fresh and organic ingredients for your Lao food cuisine. When ingredients have been purchased transfer will be to the local family house. On arrival, guests will be greeted by the family and cooking will begin. Dishes prepared and cooked will begin with Noung Khao (steam sticky rice), then Bamboo shoot soup (Keang Nor Mai), Steam fish in banana leaf (Mok Pa), Luang Prabang stew (Or Lam), and Eggplant sauce (Jeo Mak Kheua). The way of cooking will be local family style and by fire stove.
This part of the activities needs to be finished between 10:30am – 11:45am. Guests accompanied by family members will then carry their cooked food to the nearby village temple. At the temple, the monk will welcome guests and bless them after being given the food. After the monk has prayed, guests will be invited to offer water to the temple grounds and pray for their own departed friends and family. The monk will then offer guests a final blessing by tying cotton string on their wrists signifying his hopes for the best life for the guests and for Buddha or God providing them with protection. Guests will then walk with the family to the cooking house to enjoy the dishes they have cooked for lunch. Seasonal fruits will be provided for desert. During dinning time guests can enjoy drinking Lao Lao whisky which is home made from sticky rice, share conversations with family members, and thoughts about Lao culture and life in the village. Guests will then return to their hotel in the afternoon.
