Day 1

Overview

  • 07:00am-07:15am: Meeting at Sahai Lao Coffee and start your journey with a delicious cup of coffee and get your take away breakfast. Great and meet all participants.
  • 07:15am – 08:30am: Transfer by car, our guide will brief you about Lao coffee history, its importance in the econonomy / society and its various challenges. And also a quick introduction about different hilltribes in Laos. Along the way, stop to a local market and select local food for your picnic lunch!
  • 08:30am: Arrival at Long Lan village where a member of the family will welcome you and make you a short visit of this Hmong village. They will explain about their daily routine life, the work that is performed on the farm, and show you the range of products that are harvested to support their family. Here, you will be able to taste some seasonal fruit/vegetable! You will also learn about famous local medicinal plants that we use in our daily lives.
  • 09:30am: Start a 10km loop with a gradual trek along the valley, where local people established their rice fields, livehood and farms. This is a great opportunity to learn about how they plant rice and other crops in the area. Then we hike steeply up to the top of a mountain where you can see beautiful views of the village. Picnic lunch will be set up at this beautiful spot. Next, we walk along the ridge-line of the mountain to the village, you will observe various and rich landscapes along the way.
  • 13:30pm: Return to the village and quick stop at the coffee farm where you can learn about the coffee journey from the farm to the cup. Take symbolic pictures.
  • 14:30pm: Your host will artisanally prepare you some brew coffee. We will hen go to homestay where you can relax and take a shower.
  • 16:30pm: Meet the Chaman of the village. The chief of the village (if available) and some neigborhood will welcome you with a local ceremony that we call BACI. Following with some traditional Hmong music performance.
  • 18:00pm: Your host will prepare your local dinner. Feel free to share time and help them. , an opportunity to learn about local style cooking. Enjoy listening to storytelling by the elder of the village. You will sleep on basic bedding, local style.

Day 2

Overview

Optional viewpoint sunrise in a early morning. Take a short but steep walk to the hill just behind the village and enjoy the beautiful panoramic view point from the top for the sunrise.

  • 07:00am: You will wake up in the morning, as the villagers go to work in the rice fields. You can either enjoy your morning coffee and walk around the peaceful village, observe the people implementing their daily routine or simply help with cooking breakfast. We share a freshly made breakfast with the family before thanking them.
  • 08:30am: You will arrive to the coffee farm and you will learn all different stages of harvesting coffee and you will come to truly appreciate all of the hard work that need to prepare an excellent cup of coffee! You will also directly help the farmers to hand pick the coffee cherries. After the harvest we will show you how to sort the cherries by hand, hull it and transform it into a parchment.
  • 11:30am: Lunch in the village! (Locally prepared Hmong family-style dishes). Additionally, please let us know in advance if you are a vegetarian or have other dietary restrictions.
  • 13:00pm: before returning to Luang Prabang, your host will artisanally prepare you some brew coffee. We will return then back to Luang Prabang by car.
  • 14:30pm: We will return to Sahai Lao coffee to offer you the opportunity to roast your own batch of coffee as a souvenir of our tour. Consider, you will be in charge of making all steps from sorting the green beans to pack and label our own coffee bag.
  • 16:00pm: end of the tour.
