Tha Farang is located 16km northeast of Thakhek along route 12 to Mahaxay. There is a 2km track on the left, which is passable by 4-wheel drive or mountain bike (but not during the rainy season).

The Rock Viewpoint at Phou Pha Marn
Being one of the top attractions in the Khammouane Province, this viewpoint allows visitors to immerse themselves in nature, as never before in the natural beauties of Phou Hin boun National Protected Area. Since Phou Pa Marn is one of the country’s most pristine and untouched natural feature, it is intended to be a future conservation of the country’s National Protected Area. Hence, with a sustainable tourism in mind, avoiding a negative blueprint on the environment as little as possible is mandatory and promoting community-oriented travel destination in which the nearby region’s economy will be boosted.

Where exactly is it?
The attraction is located at the conservation national park in Ban Na Hin, Mueang Koun District, Kham Mouane Province. Departing from Vientiane to the spot takes about 4-5 hours by bus or car. If you are in Kham Mouane Province, it will take about 2-3 hours to get there.

Konglor Cave
Konglor cave is one of the most impressive natural wonders of Khammouane. The cave is located between Hinboun and Na Kai District. The pristine clean waters of the Hinboun river flow through the limestone year around and eventually flow into the Mekong River. The cave itself is an almost 7.5km long tunel that is about 30m wide and 20-100m high. For most of its length, the river fills the entire width of the passage way except for a largewhite sandy beach laocated about halfway through the cave. You can take a boat trip all the way through the cave. The dry season is the best time to see the cave’s feature because you can get out of your boat, walk on the beach and enjoy the beauty in the wonder cave.
Xe Bang Fai Cave
Xe Bang Fai Cave is located in Ban Nyabaet-Nong Ping village, in Boualapha District of Khammouane Province. It is about 154km East of Thakhek on Route 12. The Xe Bang Fai River runs across the Nakai plateau along the Lao-Vietnamese border. In the rainy season you have to ride the boat along the Nam Phanang river to the cave entrance, which takes about 10 minutes.
Kong Leng Lake
Located in Ban Na Keu, Hinboun District in the Northeast of Khammouane, it is about 39km from Thakhek. Getting there is quite challenging, so a local guide is recommended.
Sikhottabong Stupa
This 29 meter high golden stupa is one of the most sacred sites in Laos. It was first constructed to keep relics of the Lord Buddha in the 6th century. After the 7th century, when the area was assimilated into the Khmer Empire, the stupa was renovated in Hindu style. When the Lanxang Kingdom regained control of the area, King Phothisarat (1520-1547) added the lotus-bud top to the structure. King Saysethathirath later refurbished the stupa to its present form, which has remained unchanged since. During the 1950s, many of the facilities surrounding the stupa were constructed.
Sa Nam Waterfall
This is a large twin waterfall cascading off the sandstone of Phou Pha Man Mountain. It flows all year round and is surrounded by a Provincial Protected Area with pristine tropical forest. The path from the Tourism Information Centre follows the river for about 1.5km through semi-evergreen forest and ends at the falls. This waterfall is most magical during the rainy season and easily acessible by foot from Route No.8 from Khoun Kham village (also known as Ban Na Hin village) to the information center.
Buddha Cave
Located in Ban Na Kang Xang village Thakhek District, this cave was discovered in April 2004 and contains 229 ancient Buddha images nestled between the cave’s limestone stalactites and crystalline rock formations.
