Making the Best of Domestic Tourism: Laos featured on ITB Virtual Event Travel Meet South East Asia.

Partnering with EXO Travel Laos’ Managing Director, Duangmala Phommavong and Discover Laos Today’s Program Manager, Benny Kong, will present their thoughts on rebounding from the global pandemic in the upcoming ITB Virtual Event Travel Meet South East Asia.

ITB Asia is the leading network of travel and tourism professionals for the Asia Pacific Region. The annual ITB Asia Trade Show is one of the most important events in the industry’s calendar, with professionals from all over the world gathering to do business and exchange ideas. The Travel Meet South East Asia will bring many of these professionals together for a virtual event showcasing trends and developments within the tourism sector.

Discover Laos Today and EXO will be sharing their insights around successful marketing and making the best of domestic tourism. Both companies have been promoting the Lao Thiao Lao campaign and have created some excellent package and day tours for the domestic market. The Lao Thiao Lao (Lao Travel Laos) campaign has been an invaluable lifeline for the tourism industry in Laos supported by Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), helping to prop up an industry that is struggling from a lack of international tourists. DLT and EXO have been promoting this campaign and will speak about this, as well as sharing their experience in marketing to a domestic market.

Lao’s government response to the global pandemic has allowed it to escape the worst of the health outcomes suffered by many countries. While this has undoubtedly put enormous strain on the tourism sector, the promotion of domestic tourism, through the Lao Thiao Lao campaign and other efforts, is keeping the industry alive. Now DLT and EXO will be sharing the challenges, successes, and lessons from this effort and showcasing how the Lao tourism industry prepare a digital post-covid tourism economy.

Despite its relatively small size and small tourism market, compared to neighbouring countries, Laos represented at this prestigious industry event is a testament to how much the industry has grown over the last twenty years.

The talk will be streamed live on the ITB site www.travelmeetasia.com at 11:00 AM local time, on the 24th of February.
